The Lake Park swim team has a long history of success in the Tarheel Swim Association (TSA). The swim club, for the past 15 years, has consistently competed in the top two divisions of the TSA league. The swim club is currently in Division 1 of the TSA league.
The swim team is comprised of approximately 140 swimmers, whose ages range from 4 years to 18 years. Depending on swimmer's ability and age, the team tries to advance each swimmer's knowledge of stroke technique, proper start and finishes and flip turns (for swimmers over the age of 11 years) during the swim season. Focus is made on improving the skills and increasing the stamina of each swimmer.
While summer swimming is competitive in nature, the swim team's philosophy is to emphasize teamwork, individual goals, and good sportsmanship. Each swimmer is encouraged, through the weekly tracking of times in each event, to improve their technique and speed. Because many members of the team swim competitively year-round, we try to focus on the improvement of each swimmer rather than individual accomplishments of particular members.
As of May 11, 2009, practices will be held Monday through Friday 4:30 - 5:30 pm for 11 & Up, 5:15 - 6:15 pm for 10 & Under, and 6:00 - 6:30 for 6 and under. Beginning June 10, 2009, practices times are Monday through Friday 9:00-10:00 am for ages 10 & under; 10:00-11:00 am for ages 11 & older, 10:00 - 10:30 am for ages 6 and under. Afternoon practice from 5:00-6:00 pm is for all ages. Attendance at one practice per day is strongly recommended to attain the maximum improvement of skills during the course of the summer swim season.
Mini-Marlins is for the children that can not swim the 25 yards of pool. We are going to work with them for two weeks and see if we can get them up to speed to be on the Marlins. The Mini Marlins are a go between of learning to swim and swim team. They are not swim lessons, but a supplement to the swim lesson. There is not an age limit, but the need to be comfortable in the water. If you have any question please contact Stew.
